                  nesses and paradoxes of the Federation. I wish I had had a book like
                  this when I first started dealing with the Trucial States.
                    I venture to hope also that those readers who are citizens of the
                  United Arab Emirates will themselves find pleasure and advantage
                  in reading this book. Some of it they will think is wrong and perhaps
                  even unfair. But the author is their friend; her readers will become
                  their friends; and it is always useful to be able to see ourselves as our
                  friends see us.
