• If available, obtain witness statements. The use of audio recording is
strongly recommended to preserve witness statements and to prevent a
change in a witness’s testimony at a later date.
• Obtain the names and address of all individuals present and document their
observations or lack of observations.
• If you have pain or visible injury, use a camera, whenever possible, to
photograph the injured area. The photographs of the area should be before
and after treatment by medical personnel. The post-medical treatment
photograph should show the area without the bandage or covering, or if you
have disheveled and torn clothing, this should also be photographed.
• If the aggressor complains of pain or has visible injury, summon the required
medical treatment and even apply first aid if safe and necessary to do so.
