Short side off to defender’s right
Short side off to defender’s left
Centerline: the relative center of the defender’s body.
Live side: the side of your body where attacks from the assailant are most readily
available (generally thought of as inside the elbows or the front of the body).
Dead side: the side of your body where attacks from the assailant are least
readily available (generally thought of as outside the elbows or the back of the
body).
Short side: this refers to the proximity of the line of fire in relation to the
centerline of the defender and the area of the body with the shortest line off the
body.
Long side: this refers to the proximity of the line of fire in relation to the
centerline of the defender and the area of the body with the longest line off the
body.
After a disarm is made, the defender has several “after action” options available.
Some of these are:
• tapping and racking the weapon (make it ready to fire), keeping the assailant
in the line of fire
