Handgun Threats
THREAT: The assailant presents the handgun at your centerline or closer to
your right and uses his left hand to brace against you or push you backward. He
holds the handgun back, close to his body.
DANGER: You may be shot or taken to another location, where further crimes
will be committed.
SOLUTION: You determine that there is enough space between the weapon
and the assailant to facilitate a redirection. The line of fire is to your centerline or
towards your right, which dictates redirecting the line of fire in that direction.
Because your weight is being forced back, the pushing/bracing hand must be
addressed.
1. Using the smallest move possible, bring your right hand up to the hand
touching you and perform a sweeping motion to clear the assailant’s hand (this is
similar to an outside defense, starting on page 272).
