Portrait of a Dream Girl - Alicia Baskerville, M.A.Ed.

“After waiting patiently and gaining more experience in her teaching profession for over 12 years, she

was selected for her dream role of Director of the Health Careers Academy (HCA).”

Alicia Nicole Edmonds, was born January 30, 1985 and was raised in Moreno Valley,
California. She has only one sibling, an older brother, but has always dreamt of having a large family.
She comments that her dream of a large family is now complete, after recently giving birth to Aliya,
her 6th child. Aliya is sister to Maniya, Amiya, Michael, Alijah and Mariya. Alicia has always been
inspired to be an Educator is an excellent Mother who emphasizes education and advance learning to
her children to encourage them to Dream, Believe and maximize their potentials in life. She balances
her life well as a mother, wife to Michael Baskervile, Educator and student.

However, behind every successful career, there are often hardships and challenges that one can face
before reaching the dream achievements. Speci cally speaking of enduring Hurricane Katrina in her
senior year at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Alicia was able to endure, overcome and
ful ll her dream of graduating from Xavier University, in spite of the devastation and turmoil from the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. After eeing the oods to return to California, Alicia was determined to
return to Xavier and completed her Bachelors of Science. Alicia nally attained her Bachelor degree in
Science from Xavier University in 2007, then she earned her Master’s in Education at California Baptist
University, in Riverside California. Alicia chose the teaching profession after gaining the experience of
teaching kindergarten students at Life Church of God In Christ, for 5 years. The zeal for being an Educator
grew stronger and stronger. After graduating from college, she accepted a position to teach at Paci c
High School in San Bernardino, California. In an e ort to move closer to home to balance time with her
family and her teaching profession, Alicia was hired as a Biology teacher at Canyon Springs High School,
in the Moreno Valley School District. After waiting patiently and gaining more experience in her teaching
profession for over 12 years, she was selected for her dream role of Director of the Health Careers
Academy (HCA). This position is through the California Partnership Academy in the Health Professions.

The passion for helping the community was the strong push factor for Alicia, which made her achieve her
dream as the Health Carriers Academy (HCA), where she prepares students for the health care
          professions career.

It is a challenging role, as her mission is to educate and equip students for a health care profession
career. Alicia works with various other departments, and acknowledges that it takes complete teamwork
to train the students in such a diverse community. The role doesn’t stop there, as there is a great deal of
work that is necessary to coordinate eld experiences for our students, mentorships with Doctors and
curriculum to enhance the students understanding of the health profession.
Alicia wanted to learn more to serve the student in the health profession, and she loves learning and
currently, she is pursuing her PhD program for leadership studies.
