The academic year 2019-20 was solemnly ushered into with great enthusiasm and
hope taking the theme - Sparking Digital Literacy and Smart Citizenship. It’s my
joy to sing the praises of God, who made the expensive digital facilities ready for
us through the generosity of Colorcon Company. The dream and hardwork of the
Management and the Fabrica members along with a galaxy of those who shared
their “ful nor pakkli” contributed to the SMART look of the school premises.
Even amidst the hovering dark Covid -19 clouds, the Sparks of Digital Literacy and
Smart Citizenship were fanned with optimism, collaboration and greatest sense of
responsibility by each of the teachers, parents and the students. It is my great
pleasure to record these historical Sparks as cherished memories displaying the
resilience and commitment of teachers, parents and the children. You have indeed
transformed the crisis into an opportunity leading one another to Smart &
Responsible Citizenship and Digital Creativity.
While congratulating the editorial team for articulating the briefing of school
activities, I appreciate each and every student who has contributed to this magazine
by sharing your creative and digitals skills. This e-mgazine gives an insight into the
range and scope of imagination and creativity, collaboration and sensitivity and
team building, warmth and bonding that goes beyond the regular school
functioning. Our mobile memory drives are overflowing with the wonderful works
you have been exchanging all through this pandemic e-learning. Thank You All!
I applaud the Editorial Team for taking so much of pains to capture, celebrate and
print every child on this beautiful e-display. I am greatly delighted to present these
ordinary efforts done with extraordinary commitment and love for the children.
May these Sparks, empowered by Divine Touch, Knowledge and Insight help us,
like Mary our patron, to be Transmitters of LIGHT!
May Jesus, the Star brighten us as we gift this e- Magazine to you this Christmas,

"Work hard in silence ,let success make the noise." Empowered by Divine
touch,knowledge and insight, Immaculate Conception High School has been transmitting
its light in the remote village of Dabal for many years, transforming the life of people
from oridinary to extraordinary. It has to its credit engineers ,doctors, advocates
,businessmen ,politicians, scientists,priests, teachers ,chefs ,professors , beauticians and in
many other walks of life.Blessed are we to be under the patronage of Our Lady of
Immaculate Conception who has been our guiding light and source of inspiration to help us
to bring about the required transformation, hence it is befitting for us to recall and know the
roots and growth of ICHS all through these years.
Journey of ICHS began in 1932 under the stewardship of Fr.Manuel Colaco who was
appointed by the then, Bishop as the Chaplin of Immaculate Conception Chapel, Dabal
affiliated to Shiroda church. Fr.Manuel accepted the challenge of not only spreading the
word of God but at the same time worked upon reforming the villagers.He began his
responsibility by collecting children from the village, and teaching them basic values to be
extraordinary. He gradually introduced the elders of the village to read and write in open
corridors.Thus Fr.Manuel spread the seed of education in the Dabal village. The sapling
soon grew up to be a flourishing tree to the surprise of all and plan of God inspite of the
ordinary, poor ,simple and rural living of the villagers.
.In 1951 Sanguem taluka was entrusted to the society of Pillar by the Patriarch Archbishop
for the mission work in the Eastern outstrike of Goa.. The missionaries had to face a lot of
problems but did yoeman service in fighting against illiteracy and in attending to spritual,
moral , religious and educational needs of the people.Immaculate Conception chapel was
raised to the status of church in 1958.School at this stage had grown up from primary to
middle School still functioning in the church premises and in the corridors of some
villagers.
After struggling for many years and after completing all the legal formalities Immaculate
Conception school finally got recognization from Education Department of Goa in 1966.Fr
Gustav Alvarez was the first s.f x headmaster of the school.School started flourishing under
the nobel care and guidance of Pillar father's.Strength of the students increased by leaps and
bounds ,there was no place to accommodate students and the education department denied
to give permission for std VIII.Fr Menino Almeida along with Fr.Gustav Alvarez managed
to hire some rooms from neighbouring houses.But a greater challenge awaited them when
education department threatened them to stop std VIII if they don't have a school building
of their own..
