11. Is there anything else you would like to add?
Has read about Sac's current challenges, racial tensions and reshaping connections
to the community, saw the recent headline on the sexual assault issue. Has
experience in recovering from situations like that. At San Bernardino, came in to a
similar issue, revamped procedures, created an employee manual, mandated
reporting, etc. As an undergraduate, had experience with cross cultural and
diversity formal training and experience. Saw the City's Soccer initiative; was a
soccer athlete in the past and feels he could bring an understanding of the soccer
community.
12. If out of the area – Are you willing to relocate?
Has visited the area a number of times, has wanted to move there, could relocate
himself within a couple weeks and then family could follow after the school year.

1. Why are you interested in the YPCE Director opportunity with the City of Sacramento? Why are you
actively or passively looking for a new position?
Really excited about the position and wants to be in Sacrament; believes in God, family, then work (used to
be God, work, then family). Loves the history and what they are doing for the youth, and what they are doing
to improve the parks. Looks at titles when looking at positions (has done Parks for 25 years) noticed that the
order of the title listing Youth first. It seems broad and caught his attention. They are looking for a
community outreach person who can bridge the community, go into low income and wealthy communities
and bridge the barriers. Has a thorough background in parks; developing plans is in his skillset including
security plans. Someone who understands beautification, irrigation, maintenance, and community outreach.
He is a community director, and speaks with all the stakeholders athletics, non­profits, youth and education
services, etc. Working with Commissions and City Council which he has experience with and the skillsets for.
Master's in recreational leadership.
2. Please describe your most recent position and day­to­day responsibilities.
Working on youth programs currently; cosmetology programs. Responsible for 84 parks and $23M annual
budget; admin, rec, community serv, plan maint divisions. The Sac position also has open space and youth,
open space is in community serv in his current. Works with City Council and CM on infrastructure projects.
77FTEs currently. Works with community based orgs and non­profits, contracts some program services and
some run internal, responsible for providing reports to Council and the Rec Board. Manages a 30 site school
program in partnership with the school district to focus on health, nutrition, education, and sports.
Neighborhood watch programs. New development of special needs and PR.
3. How many employees do you supervise? Who do you report to?
6 direct reports all managers, assistant director, parks sup, budget person, community division manager, and
rec div manager.

4. Describe your experience with each of the three areas of the department: Youth, Parks, and Community
Engagement
1) Youth—he believes in surveying every community, with youth developed summer and after school
programs, youth training programs, establishing programs and allocating money for summer jobs, giving
them something to do and helping them build their skill set; has a cosmetology and culinary program;
athletics and sports development—junior referee program, also engages in special needs and inclusion
programs; literacy and tutoring programs (4,000 participants and 500 coaches) partners with universities for
tutoring. Youth is one of his skillsets and he focuses on programing. Developed teen councils in the past as
well, they are the future leaders of parks. As the Director have to get out and speak on youth engagement
yourself and be the face of it.
2) 84 parks. Develops master plans with staff (3­500 acres), develops tiered plans for park maintenance,
small to regional parks,
