Mario has 14+ years of parks and rec experience. He has been serving as the Deputy Director
for City of Riverside for 7 years. He has extensive experience in youth programming,
Parks and park maintenance, and community enrichment efforts. The timing of this recruitment and
possible transition is good for his life right now. Riverside has 3,000 acres of land including
developed and undeveloped lands, and he is responsible for the facilities, 3 senior centers, 8 parks
that are maintained by in house staff, and more. His management style is hands-on and he is a
metric based decision maker. He has experience implementing new technologies, including
setting up customer service feedback kiosks at facilities. He and his staff created the Riverside
School of the Arts program, which is now a non-profit; he worked with Kaiser to implement
programs to address the high obesity rates amongst youth; and he is working on more engagement
City of Sacramento | Director of Youth, Parks, & Community Enrichment programs for the at-risk and undeserved. He will be out of the Country from 4/4-4/12.
