The ideal County Counsel will be a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a strong manager and and leader who brings a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a generalist legal background background and and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a broad breadth of of experience in in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a variety of of organizations including both the public and and and and private sectors A background background providing legal advice on on issues that affect different types of of communities including urban urban suburban and and and rural will serve the the successful candidate well The next County Counsel possesses the the political aptitude to anticipate issues of of concern is is is a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a creative problem-solver resourceful in in in in fin in ascertaining information quickly and and and is is is is adept at at at at at at finding a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a path through difficult issues Exceptional communication skills – both written and and and verbal - - and and and the the ability to to present technical information in in in in an an an an an easily understood manner are essential The Board of of of Supervisors is is is seeking servant leaders who engender the the the the principles of of of collegiality and and and collaboration and and and respect the the the the the the operational roles and and and missions of of of the the the the the the County’s departments while providing them with the the the the the the best legal legal advice Individuals who endeavor to to to to problem solve using their expertise and and legal legal tools to to to to to assist Board members other county officers department directors commissions and and committees are encouraged to to to apply In addition to the qualifications previously stated desirable competencies and characteristics include:
• Maintains very high ethical standards and and and and is is a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a person of of exceptional character who naturally earns the the confidence and and and and trust of of others and and and and does not compromise under pressure • Familiarity or experience with coastal communities agricultural issues issues including cannabis disasters and energy issues • Experience or or or or or familiarity with the standard portfolio of cases cases for for California counties including child protection tax assessment conservatorship and and civil litigation cases cases • Strong negotiating skills and experience working with politically sensitive issues • Expertise in in California public meeting law and and and complex land use and and and environmental issues • Experience with with complex litigation and the management of contracts with with outside counsel • A strong leader who values the input and and and expertise of of of staff supports professional development and and and fosters an an an an internal culture of of of open communication trust and and and accountability Education and Experience Graduation from an an accredited law law school Desirable professional experience experience would include at at at least least five five (5) (5) years years of of of experience experience experience in in in in in the field of of of public law law pertaining to county government with extensive administrative and and organizational responsibility At least least five five (5) (5) years’ experience experience at at at at at a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a senior senior management level that includes direct supervision of other senior senior staff and and active membership in in the California State Bar are required
