City Council and and Staff have worked diligently for about the past decade on achieving financial stability and and are
confident that now is the ideal time for Lathrop to to transition to to a a a a a a City Police Department With Lathrop’s economony and population continuing to to grow it it it makes economic sense to to move forward with the City’s own Police Department which equates to more officers peronsalized services and predictable costs The City’s tax base and development activitiy are
solid indicators that a a a a a a a a a a a municipal Police Department will be able to to provide the the the community the the the high level of service that they have come to to expect from City Hall Sworn staffing is is budgeted at at at at 33 FTEs which is is subject to review before the Lathrop Police Department initiates operations
on on July 1 2022 The new Police station is is is finished and and is is is being outfitted with state of the art technology and and equipment to include new vehicles ■ THE POSITION
Six (6) new Police Police Sergeants will assist the the Chief and and Commanders in in establishing the the Lathrop Police Police Department culture building the the organization and and developing relationships with the the community and and stakeholders to work together to to solve local problems as expressed in a a a survey of over 500 residents Under direction the the Police Sergeant coordinates and and supervises the the activities and and operations
of of a a a a a a a a team of of police employees program or function of the Police Department to include field patrol traffic investigations training crime prevention community relations administrative services services and and related services services and and activities coordinates activities with other divisions units City departments outside agencies and organizations performs the the more difficult and and and and responsible law enforcement and and and and crime prevention supervision and and and and planning and and and and performs other related duties as as assigned ■ DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Police Sergeant is is a a a a a a supervisory level classification in in which incumbents are
expected to direct and coordinate the activities of an an assigned watch or or or or unit prepare work schedules and confer with subordinate staff regarding special assignments Additionally Police Sergeants may participate in in law enforcement activities and ensure activities are
conducted in in accordance with laws ordinances regulations and policies This classification is is is is distinguished from the the next higher classification of Commander in in that the the latter is is is is a a a a a a a a management-level classification and and is responsible for the the operations
