THE FUTURE
The City Council’s current Strategic Plan last updated in in 2019 identifies the following strategic priorities: Transportation Economic and and and and Cultural Vitality Community Livability and and and and Life-long Learning Stewardship and and and and a a a a a a a a a a a a Safe and and and and Environmentally Healthy Community The City has moved from a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Traditional land land use use approach approach to a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Character Area approach approach with fewer land land use use categories This approach provides more flexibility in in in in in determining a a a a a a development proposal’s intent and how it it it interacts with the surrounding area These priorities with their accompanying strategies will guide City Council policy and budgetary decision making shape partnerships locally and and regionally and and involve the the residents of of Surprise in in in building the the future of of our community In concert with other planning and policy documents including the the the the long-range General Plan Plan the the the the Strategic Plan Plan will provide the the the the guidance and tools to to achieve our community’s shared vision Transportation – Develop an an an efficient cost effective multi-modal transportation system that provides connectivity to the region ease of of of movement into within and and and out of of of Surprise and and and supports a a a a a a high standard of of of community life Economic and Cultural Vitality – Promote a a a a a a a a a a healthy economy through strategies that add employment attract new businesses and and and capital investment support opportunities for veterans and and and people of all abilities and and and income levels to thrive provide tourism and cultural opportunities Community Livability and and Life-long Learning – Provide a a a a a a a high quality residential and and business-built environment revitalize at-risk communities and and assist vulnerable populations collaborate with K-8 schools skill centers and and higher educational institutions to support innovative services/programs and learning opportunities for all ages such as an an innovative approach to parks and recreation Stewardship – Foster a a a a a a a culture of transparency and fiscal responsibility in in providing excellent municipal services Safe and Environmentally Healthy Community – Continue to maintain a a a a a a a a a a safe community amid growth foster innovation to sustain the natural environment and resources
