■ POLICE DEPARTMENT – WHY NOW
City Council and and staff have worked diligently for about the past decade on achieving financial stability and and are confident that now is the ideal time for Lathrop to to transition to to a a a a a a City Police Department With Lathrop’s economy and population continuing to to grow it it it makes economic sense to to move forward with the City’s own Police Department which equates to more officers lower budget personalized services and predictable costs The City’s tax base and development activity are solid indicators that a a a a a a a a a a municipal Police Department will be able to to provide the the the community the the the high level of service that they have come to to expect from City Hall The Department is expected to be supported by 40 FTE (33 sworn sworn and and 7 non-sworn) and and FY 22-23 budget of approximately $8 8M Contracts for dispatch property and and evidence and and vehicle maintenance are currently being explored ■ THE POSITION
Under administrative direction of the the City Manager the the Police Chief is is responsible for directing planning and managing the provision of of law enforcement providing leadership and and oversight for for all functions and and activities of of the Police Department including field operations criminal investigations communications and management services coordinating assigned activities with other City departments officials outside agencies and the the public fostering cooperative working relationships among City departments and and with intergovernmental and and regulatory agencies and and and various public and and and private groups and and and performing other related work as required
