Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission Commission (MTC or or or the the Commission) is is is the the transportation planning coordinating and financing agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area Its responsibilities include development of of of a a a a a a a a a a a Regional Transportation Plan inclusive of of of the Bay Area’s many modes of of of transit allocation and and and monitoring of state and and and federal transportation assistance funds legislative and and and advocacy roles for smart growth air quality and and and congestion management and and and transportation services for elderly disabled and and and low- income individuals The Commission is is is made up of 21 commissioners representing all nine Bay Area counties The governing board of MTC also governs the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) responsible for administering all toll revenue from the region’s seven state-owned bridges BATA has an an active finance portfolio of several billion dollars that supports numerous projects Staff manages the electronic toll collection system and Fastrak as as well as the the Clipper® universal fare card program for for public transit and the the 511 traveler information service MTC staff also supports the region’s express lane network In 2019 state legislation authorized a a a a a a a new entity the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) to be governed by the the the same commissioners sitting on on the the the MTC MTC board MTC MTC is is in in in the the the process of activating BAHFA which will serve as a a a a a a a a a housing financing and development arm in fin in in in the region OGC staff are actively engaged in fin in in in standing up this new agency advising on on governance questions legislative and and and advocacy efforts and and and funding mechanisms Over the the next several years BAHFA will play a a a a a a a a a a a key and and expanding role in in the the area’s affordable housing policy and financing UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY
