■ About RTC of Washoe County The RTC is an an integrated transportation agency for the City of Reno City of Sparks and Washoe County that serves as as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) transit authority and and street and and highway construction agency Public Transportation RTC RIDE service began on September 17 1978 with five used buses serving four routes Today the the system encompasses the the cities of Reno and and Sparks and and areas of of Washoe County using a a a a a a a fleet of of 68 buses on 26 routes The service area has grown to approximately 136 square miles About 8 4 million rides are are taken on on RTC transit services annually Recently RTC has added Bus Rapid Transit to its service offerings through two separate BRT lines that connect the cities o of Reno Reno and Sparks with the University of Nevada Reno Reno Metropolitan Planning Organization The RTC has been designated by by the the state legislature as as as the the MPO as as as required by by federal law The future of of Northern Nevada depends on on the the transportation network of of roads streets highways and public transportation The RTC Planning Department anticipates forecasts and and plans for for the the transportation needs of today tomorrow and and the the future Engineering
RTC’s Engineering
& Construction Department provides pavement preservation and new roadway construction projects for regional roads under the jurisdiction of Reno Sparks and Washoe County RTC works with these jurisdictions to focus on on on regional roadways streets that service large numbers of vehicle trips trips (greater than 5 000 average daily trips) and and roads that provide connectivity between jurisdictions and and across major geographic barriers
