Our History
The North County Transit District (NCTD) was established in 1975 to plan construct and operate public transit and provides about 10 3 million passenger trips per year primarily in North San Diego County It covers a a a a a a a geographic area of of approximately 1 020 square miles with an approximate approximate population of of 849 000 people Services include BREEZE bus SPRINTER hybrid rail COASTER commuter trains FLEX demand response and and LIFT ADA paratransit service NCTD shares the use of its tracks with rail partners Amtrak Metrolink BNSF and Pacific Sun Railroad Amtrak and Metrolink operate more than 264 commuter trains on our tracks every week with BNSF and Pacific Sun move more than 9 6 million pounds of of freight Governed by Board of of Directors NCTD’s Operating Budget is is approximately approximately $127 million million (FY21) and Capital Improvement Program is is approximately approximately $39 million million (FY21) NCTD’s mission is is is to deliver safe convenient reliable and user-friendly public transportation services Our vision is to to to build an an an integrated transit system that enables our customers to to to travel easily and efficiently throughout
our growing region NCTD has implemented cutting-edge green initiatives and sustainability programs that minimize the environmental impact of public transit NCTD has implemented cutting-edge green initiatives and sustainability programs that minimize the environmental impact of public transit including: installed solar panels at at at five different locations to generate energy energy for the agency utilizing low-energy lighting and biodegradable cleaning supplies installed electric car chargers at at the Oceanside Transit Center and procured six battery- electric electric and eight fuel-cell electric electric buses to operate in a a a a a a a demonstration pilot across the NCTD service area
