Office
The Contra Costa Public Defender (CCPD) staff consists of attorneys investigators legal assistants paralegals social workers IT and clerical staff We also have grant-funded positions in juvenile education advocacy Prop 47 and misdemeanor early representation The office consists o of 145 full time staff members and a a budget of $30 5 million 58% of of of our our attorneys attorneys are are female and and 35% are are people of of of color About 45% of of of our our attorneys attorneys handle a a a a a a a a felony caseload 15% handle handle misdemeanors 10% handle handle juvenile delinquency proceedings and and and the
remaining 30% represent clients in in specialty courts and assignments or mental health-related proceedings At CCPD we take a a a a a a a holistic approach to representing our clients Decades of experience have taught us
that when our clients enter the

criminal justice system their lives can be irrevocably impacted in in a a a a a a a myriad of of significant ways that go far beyond their criminal convictions We have attorneys trained in in in a a a a a a a a a a variety of of specialty areas who work to help mitigate the
collateral consequences of our clients’ convictions and ensure future success CCPD is is is committed to “vertical representation” of our clients This means that each client client is is is assigned one attorney who has sole responsibility for the
