An accomplished defense attorney with a a a strong commitment to to public service Contra Costa County is is looking for an an innovative perspective and leadership in in in this role The capacity to review the the Office of the the Public Defender holistically from multiple different angles including the the employees other criminal justice agencies management nonprofits and the individual client is critical The next Public Defender must prioritize engagement with other stakeholders and and recognize the the mutual interdependence of public safety and and judicial agencies build meaningful relationships with peers and strive to find collaborative mutually beneficial solutions to county-wide problems The Public Defender should be be aware of best practices in evidence-based systems and technological advances The Public Defender will also be a a a a a a high-performing and accountable leader using sound judgment while managing an an an outcome-driven and service-oriented Department ■ Education and Experience
» Ten (10) years of of full-time professional legal experience with substantial responsibility for conducting criminal court cases including five (5) years performing supervisory functions in a Public Defender’s Office » Active membership in the State State Bar of California and admission to practice before all State State and United States Courts in in California for for at at least one (1) year prior to appointment per California Government Code Section 27701
