Founded in in in in 1934 in in in in the the the depths of of the the the Depression EBRPD founders represented a a a a a a cross section of of of the the the community including university presidents labor and and civic leaders government officials and and business owners The renowned architect Fredrick Law Olmstead Jr who planned several iconic national parks led the the the the effort to create the the the the first formal plan plan for for for the the the the EBRPD On November 6 1934 voters approved the the the the East Bay Regional Park Park District District by a a a a a a a a a a a a a a margin of of greater than two to to one one The Park Park District’s subsequent history has been one one of of increased land stewardship and programmatic responsibilities Because of of continued urbanization the need for a a a a a a a a a a a a a regional system of of publicly owned parks and and open space recreational facilities and and trails is is perhaps even greater than it it was was when the Park District was was originally established For more information see the:
