The Red Well-Read Reader
Story 121
The Reeses
Old man Reese lived with his little niece, Bernice, outside of
Nice.
On their farm - that had a 99-year lease - they raised a few
geese. They also raised sheep for their beautiful fleece,
which they sold to the best tailors of Greece to make pants
that never lose their crease.
Year in and year out their hard work did not cease. But the hard work mad their
profits increase and their worries decrease.
Therefore the two were able to live in peace until that final day on which
Mr. Reese finally did decease.
Story 122

Therefore chicken with rice and bread with yeast
Is their one and only singular feast
