Story 284

                                                   A Drouth

It was the sad TRUTH that it was drier than VERMOUTH. It

happened first in PLYMOUTH and FALMOUTH, and then in the south of
the County Louth. There was a drouth. Ten hundred folks died with a

               dried-up mouth.

              Story 285

                                               An Evil Power

The man was dour. The only normal thing he did was give the trees in

his bower, a daily shower. At passers-by he would glower, or louer, as

               they would cower.

At night he would fry snakes in flour, then devour them at the

midnight hour. Some say they could sense the devil's evil power.

               Change: louer for lower.
