Good evening debutantes, escorts, families, friends and supporters of the Oakland Bay Area Chapter of The Links,
Incorporated. We are again excited and appreciative of the opportunity to greet you tonight but more importantly for
the privilege of spending time with and introducing 33 phenomenal teens. This 59 Cotillion, “An Evening Of Majestic
th
Grandeur” is a continuation of our core belief that it takes a village to raise a child and that we must be the change we
want to see in the world. Therefore we are committed to investing our time, talents and treasure in developing and
guiding our next generation of African American leaders.
Over the past 8 months, through a series of workshops, seminars and activities, our participants have learned about mental
and physical health, financial literacy, social, professional and networking etiquette and why Black Lives Matter. They have
enjoyed fun activities such as pampering at a Day Spa, scoring strikes and spares at a bowing party and practicing graceful
moves at our cotillion rehearsals. They have also served our community by collecting food items and packing food baskets
for the benefit of deserving families.

In addition, this cohort has worked hard to help us reach the monetary goals of our fundraiser. Through

Souvenir Book advertisements, ticket sales and contributions from several generous benefactors, we will be able to donate
significant dollars to numerous community philanthropic programs. In the past these have included, the East Bay College
Fund, the Omega Boys Club, , Wardrobe For Opportunity, Berkeley Youth Jazz Program, NAACP Legal Defense Fund and
Celebration Of Excellence to name a few.
Our faith in our future has never been stronger for we know these young adults are ready to step into their destinies
prepared to lead and committed to serve. And we are grateful for your presence this evening
to help us honor and celebrate their “majestic grandeur”. May tonight be just the beginning of a wonderful holiday season
for you and your family.
