    Client objectives:
Our client was setting up a new UK office to provide local support for their clients Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Lear. They wanted to hire a Programme Manager with experience in Electronics as well as having customer knowledge of JLR along with a wide range of experience in delivering and securing new projects.
Our client also had an additional requirement for two Project Engineers; the first role was for someone with thermal engineering and design experience. The second role required more experience in a customer facing role with JLR and a good understanding of their processes. Our client was opening an office in Coventry and required all candidates to be locally based with good local connections.
Strategy
As there was a very specific brief in terms of required skills and previous work experience on JLR projects, the main focus for sourcing candidates was via a direct headhunt type search as well as networking through people we already knew within the industry.
We used social media to initially contact identified potential candidates for those with an online profile and contacted other identified candidates via other means. We also sent direct marketing to candidates in our talent network and CRM system. This process successfully identified a suitable candidate which reflects the
quality of our existing candidate pipeline and network
in this area.
Challenges
Our client didn’t have an office in the UK at the time of the recruitment process which presented a certain level of risk for candidates considering the roles. This was coupled with the fact that our client hadn’t previously operated in the UK which meant that the candidates were curious about what financial package they would be offered for the roles. Also the niche aspect of the role profile meant that the candidates expectations were consistently high and quite specific.
Our client also stipulated that they wanted locally based candidates with connections to the area which reduced the potential pool of candidates considerably. Other companies operating in this sector tend to hire candidates from across the EU and beyond.
There were particular requirements for the interview process from our client as they wanted to interview
a group of people in the UK at the same time. This isn’t always possible with candidates sourced through headhunt searches. Our client also wanted all candidates to travel to Odelzhausen (near Munich) to attend personal interviews.
