Consul General’s Message
The Consulate General of the Philippines in New York joins the Filipino Community in the
Northeastern United States in a meaningful celebration of the 119th Anniversary of the
Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
Inspired by the year’s Philippine Independence Day Commemoration theme of “Kalayaan
2017: Pagbabagong Sama-Samang Balikatin”, we acknowledge the crucial role played by all
sectors of Philippine society, both at home and overseas, in engendering change for a better, more resilient
Philippines.
We share in the desire of our country and people to fully embrace the many opportunities which lie ahead
as we continue to forge a path towards greater development anchored on peace, stability, justice, ;aw and order,
and solidarity. This likewise includes a commitment to assist the most undeserved among our countrymen and
women for in the words of President Rodrigo Duterte, “...what good will progress be if its benefits do not trickle down
to the poorest of the poor.”
As we collectively carry on the task of
building our nation,, we recall the sacrifices made
by our forbearers who bravely faced deprivations,
losses and even death to secure our cherished
freedom.
Here in the US Northeast, we reaffirm our
commitment to actively engage various sectors
and our Filipino –American Community in greater
collaboration for positive change and in producing
lasting contributions to society.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang
Sambayanang Pilipino!
MA. THERESA B. DIZON DE VEGA
Consul General
(continued from front pg. The Secretary’s message)
Let us also remember the more than ten million Filipinos living and working abroad who work hard to
liberate their families from hardship and give them better opportunities in life. The global Filipino indomitable
spirit and character continue to make a difference wherever they are in the world.
As a nation we Filipinos on bended knees implore the aid of Almighty God to guide us to maintain a just
and humane society especially amidst the threats of international terrorism and transnational crimes. At the
same time we stand tall as Filipinos as the Philippines is a responsible and respected member of the community.
Mabuhay ang Kalayaan at ang Sambayanang Pilipino!
