Ban Pa Miang is the community of Lanna people located approximately 14 km far from Chae Son National Park. Most of area is surrounded by complex mountains and its location is above the sea level about 1,200 meters with comfortable weather throughout the year. Apart from being famous about the Orchid Tree Blooming Festival in every February, this community is also dominant in farming “Miang” or Camellia sinensis var. assamica tea including the processing of Miang, the search of forest products, the planting of coffee tree and other winter plants. However, the authentic and simple lifestyle in the village is maintained and mainly relied on nature, the homestay is also implemented to let tourists stay close to and touch the nature and simple lifestyle in the community, as well as taste “Khan Tok” healthy food consisting of famous local food menus, such as northern style backyard chicken spicy soup with vegetables, chili sauce with steamed vegetables, northern Thai spicy mushroom sausage and Miang leaves spicy salad.
“Miang” is the plant vastly growing in local and it mainly generates in come for community people. The villagers also knew how to use the benefits of Miang, not only cooking but also making “tea leaf pillow” used for deodorization. The method of making pillow is selecting matured leaves, drying them in sunlight for a few days to make leaves’ scent active before roasting them for good scent and finally putting them in multi-shaped and multi-sized pillows. Its price is reasonable and it can be placed in sunlight when its scent is disappeared. The young leaves can be cooked such as Miang leaves spicy salad, and the top of tree leaves are made of dried tea leaves which is roasted and baked for boiling and drinking as hot tea.
