We wanted to show Muang Kung Village a new opportunity to use their creativity to imagine the possibilities.
From the survey of pottery community at Muang Kung Village, Chiang Mai province, Lori and Himawari were impressed by the lifestyle of community, especially the placement of “Name Ton” or the water pot in front of the house to provide drinking water for the passer-by expressing the kindness of people in the community. However, at present, these cultures are going to disappear along with the production of Name Ton, both students would like to re-apply the pottery products and create value as well as to promote tourists to know this place and culture for creating the growth and progress for the community. Finally, three types of products were designed and created: Muang Kung, Tor and Prang 1. “Muang Kung”: the glazed tile or 3D tile matching the local style with the contemporary interior for creating value to Mueang Kung Village, consisting of three collections with the challenge at the use of materials specifically existing at Mueang Kung Village only. All eight types of materials from Muang Kung Community can produce 30 pieces of glazed tile.
2. “Tor”: the simple shaped tile with pattern similar to grains on wood shows the relationship between Muang Kung Village and the village producing wooden works. The skills of these two communities were combined together and created new products as both souvenir and home or restaurant décor.
3. “Prang”: the earthenware with the property of quick water absorption is used as reference in the design. The students drew patterns on the tile and tested by spraying water on it. The pattern drawn shall be surprisingly appeared. This kind of tile can be used for decorating the bathroom, spa room or swimming pool.
