 Future Craft is the innovation of technology without losing the traditional culture and crafting skills.
The inspiration in work creation of Rae and Tsubasa came from the observation of craftsmen’s postures when creating handicraft, reflecting the time consuming and effort in creating work. Besides, the motion and the emotion of craftsmen were interpreted as the contemporary lighting arrangement in order to communicate the working of local craftsmen and build the common emotion to users. Under the concept of light characteristics which are the diffusion and assembly, the students combined the motions and postures of handicraft creating with the light and the way the materials react with the light, for example, bamboo strips and threads, to be the works of product design as follow:
1. Splitting of Bamboo The wickerwork-shaped lantern is made of Japanese bamboo which its wood is more rigid than Thai bamboo. When slicing Japanese bamboo as thin bamboo strips, it provided the softer feeling than usual with filigrees on bamboo and creamy color, making the light illuminated out looking warm and creating the peaceful and relaxed feeling. However, when turning off this lantern, it will be the room décor as well.
2. Spinning of Threads & Loom Weaving Three-pieced lantern set which light and colors are adjustable as desired. Inspired by the motion of craftsmen when working with threads, for example, yarning and weaving, bright colors of Thai threads were also pulled to merge in order to link the
