We know very well that a tree which grows enough to give flowers and fruits, and overshadows is derived from a tiny seed. The first thing shooting from such tiny seed is a root conveying water and nourishment to a trunk which grows, forms heartwood and thick bark for preventing from harms, followed by buds and leafs for providing benefits to other living things. Communities in each local area of Thailand are similar to the tree, which are not groundlessly born and grow but consist of roots of history, culture and belief preaching to be a society, and reflect the identity of that society in the form of language, folklore, lifestyle in each area, architecture as well as “handicraft”. When handicraft is one of the community’s identities, the book “Phli” shall present the journey diary expressing the survey of new generation people from foreign countries with different cultures. The journey will delve into the cultural roots of Northern local area and absorb skills, experiences and inspirations from these cultural roots to further develop the value creation for traditional handicraft. The creation of benefits for craftsmen, communities and consumers are similar to the tree growing from roots, then budding and fruiting for benefits of humanity
