The researchers use stunted and non-stunted cohorts in Jamaica and Ghana to discover pathways to stunting and their epigenetic controls with a view to crafting new interventions.
The main objectives of this study are to discover new pathways to childhood stunting, using epigenetic approaches, and to use nutritionally sensitive pathways so discovered to monitor interventions. It is also expected that discovery of such new pathways to stunting will lead to creation and piloting of novel interventions. Study is being carried out in Jamaica (University of West Indies) and Ghana (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology), and laboratory and informatics leadership are from New Zealand.
