Tennis Club Open Day
Anyone for tennis? The local Chesterfield club is preparing to open its doors to welcome the public to its annual summer event
A WORD once associated with many tennis organisations was ‘exclusive’. Now, however, ‘inclusive’ is the name of the
game at Chesterfield Tennis Club.
The local organisation has been delighted to see one of its
coaches, Andy Bell, receive the Derbyshire Tennis Coach of the Year award, recognising all the work he does, but particularly teaching and encouraging players with special needs.
As a player, Andy reached county level, but it as a coach where he has found his real calling in the sport.

players who have mental, physical, learning and sensory impairments.
Explained Andy: “We concentrate on people’s abilities, not their disabilities.”
Andy heads the club’s wheelchair tennis programme and also takes the game out into the community to venues such as care homes in Hasland and Dronfield where residents enjoy sitting tennis.
The Chesterfield club continues to go from strength to strength offering coaching and playing sessions for players of all abilities. It has three smart indoor courts, seven outdoor courts - five of them floodlit - and it offers coaching for those setting out in the sport or others who may be returning to tennis after an absence of several years. There is a welcome for everyone, from tennis tots to seniors.
The local community is invited to call in and inspect the club’s facilities and meet coaches and staff at the club’s annual summer Open Day on Sunday, July 8th. With free admission, plus food and drink to enjoy, you can discover all you might want to know about the club, whether you fancy playing on a relaxed, social basis or would like to compete in local league competitions.
The Open Day runs from 1-4pm.
