Fun in the sun
Dancers, dogs, donkeys... and free blood pressure monitoring. John Winter reports that the 2018 Wingerworth
Fun Day had something for everyone!
J ESSIE Millward, aged seven, was thrilled to be allowed to handle her cocker spaniel, Daisy, in the
dog show at the annual Wingerworth Fun Day for the first time, and even more delighted when she won her class!
To make her even more happy, dad Andy, of Longedge Lane, Wingerworth, had earlier won the class for dog with best hair/condition with Daisy's daughter, Amber, aged 10 months.
"I'm going to give them both four treats because they have been so good," said Jessie.
The dog show has always been the most popular feature of the Fun Day, and this year was no exception. It was judged by MP Lee Rowley.
Despite the conflict with the Royal Wedding, there was lots more to please the crowds of people who turned up to enjoy the lovely weather. It was possibly the best attendance ever.
On show in one tent was the artwork of children from two village schools, on the theme of seaside art. The Year 2 winner was George of Hunloke, with runners up Chase Leivesley and Poppy from Deer Park, while the Year 4 section winner was Amber, from Hunloke, with runners-up Lewis, Hunloke, and Holly Williamson, Deer Park.
