accompaniment. As part of these festivities, there will also be an Alternative Flower Festival, to be held in the Parish Rooms from 11am on the same day.
The idea behind this is to have different 'fun arrangements', using any materials. Just let the imagination take over - decorate a hat, a stool, make a picture, or just create a traditional arrangement.
This is open to all; no prizes, simply the fun of taking part! Refreshments will be available from 11am to 3pm. Arrangements can be brought to the Parish Rooms on Friday, 3rd
August, between 6-8pm. Please bring a card with your name on it. You may also bring arrangements on the day between 9-10am.
The Scarecrow Competition this year is themed on a traditional scarecrow, made of straw and decorated with flowers. Entry forms will be available in the local shops.
Chair’s Charity
T HE Parish Council is introducing an annual Chair’s Charity, providing the opportunity for a charity to use the Parish
Rooms and facilities at no charge.
This year the Chair’s Charity event is a Quiz Night to be held to raise
funds for Parkinson’s Research. The event will be held at the Parish Rooms on Saturday, 15th September, at 6pm.
Tickets are £6 per person and include a Pie & Pea Supper. Maximum number per team is six.
Parish Council membership
A DDRESSING some of the inaccurate comments made on social media and written in the postbag of Wings recently, the
parish council would like to provide the correct facts.
Regarding the current parish council; at present there are only five
co-opted members. The remaining eight members put their names forward for election and as only their names appeared on the ballot paper, they were elected, uncontested, at the last election, following correct protocol.
Mr Marsden was a county councillor and this was clearly stated in his article. Therefore, he had absolutely no remit to improve the Parish Rooms.
Parish councillors neither receive any payment, nor any form of financial gain from serving the community. Councillors have very strict guidelines to adhere to, and are both responsible to, and answerable to, higher authorities for all actions.
Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings and raise concerns during the public forum, or can request an appointment via the clerk. Members of the public are also welcome to put their names forward as candidates for the council at the next elections, due to take place in May, 2019.
