AN INTERVIEW WITH HOMEOWNERS
OF 7 SPRUCE MEADOW COURT
WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS HOME?
We knew when we saw this property that it met everything we were looking for in a
home. We wanted a beautiful home where we could raise our children, entertain, have
easy access to town and NYC, and live a comfortable and private lifestyle. We had been
living in NYC for 25 years and commuting to Wilton to a smaller home. When we decided to
move more permanently to Wilton, we wanted a home where we could fully enjoy our time in
Connecticut. The gorgeous flat land and mature landscaping and the expansive sun-filled house
combined to offer the perfect retreat for us.
WHY ARE YOU MOVING?
We have raised our children, and the youngest graduated from college in 2018. Both our daughters
are working and moving forward with their lives. We are now ready to part with our beloved home
and downsize to a home for just the two of us and (frequent) visits from our children! We plan to
move nearby because we love the area so much but need a smaller living space for the two of us to
enjoy.
WHAT MADE US CHOOSE WILTON AND WHAT DO WE LIKE MOST ABOUT THE TOWN?
We wanted a smaller town to use as a weekend base for our busy lives in NYC, originally looking in
Westport, Wilton, and New Canaan. We liked the small town feel of Wilton and the central location to
all the towns in the area. Having an excellent school district was important as we were planning on
having children who might attend the schools in CT. After raising our daughters in NYC and coming
to Wilton every weekend through 2009, we decided to slow down and move here full time. Now
going on 30 years, we love the town and are thankful for choosing Wilton over the other choices.
The central access to great food, shopping, and recreation is ideal for us coming from NYC and
having high expectations. Wilton offered a charm the other towns did not and allowed us to have a
quiet and beautiful country setting while being close to everything we could want. It has the best
grocery store in Fairfield Country (the Village Market) and the best restaurant in CT (Schoolhouse
at Cannondale). At the same time, in 10-15 minutes we can be at The Inn at Pound Ridge (Jean-
Georges), Westport’s Whelk or Kawa Ni, or New Canaan’s Elm to name a few. Shopping in Westport
or Greenwich is close and offers most everything we could want in NY. In Wilton, people couldn't
be friendlier, horn honking is virtually non-existent, and residents have a genuine love of the town
with its small town roots.
DID OUR KIDS LIKE THE SCHOOLS?
Our two daughters went to a private girls’ school on the upper East Side in NYC until they
were in middle school. They loved the small girls' only classes and enjoyed the benefits of art
classes at the Met and everything that comes with a NYC education. We assumed our daughters
would most certainly attend the equivalent private schools in Greenwich when we decided to
move here more permanently. After considering our options, we decided to try the local public
school in Wilton for a year because of the rave reviews about the school and the convenience of
its location. We thought we would change in mid-year or after a year if it didn’t work out and enroll
in one of the fine private schools. We also assumed our daughters would be far more advanced than
what the Wilton school could offer based upon their education in NYC. We were very wrong and found
the schools to be exceedingly challenging in both math and english and were very pleased with the
level of education. At the same time, our daughters thrived in a new environment, taking on new athletic
challenges and extracurricular activies not available in NYC. The short answer is our daughters thrived
academically and athletically and went on to Dartmouth and Harvard, now having graduated in 2016 and
2018. We could not be happier with the opportunities presented to our daughters and the work ethic and social
awareness they developed while at Wilton.
