TOP 10 THINGS WE'LL MISS ABOUT LIFE AT 223 HIGH MEADOW ROAD
1. The neighborhood and and our little mini-neighborhood. We are part of the High
Meadow Road neighborhood and have many friends within the horseshoe. We also
love our little shared road, it is like living in a cul de sac where you have more privacy in
the back yards and a tighter connection from the front doors.
2. We will miss out Porch Times with the neighbors from our little street.
3. The resort backyard. The first time we sat in the hot tub on a dark summer night,
with the pool lit and music playing rough the outdoor speakers, we looked at each
other and said “this feels like our own private Four Seasons resort”. Ten years of bbq
dinners on the deck, water volleyball in the pool and long hot rinses in the outdoor
shower have only enhanced that feeling.
4. Showering in the outdoor shower almost every single day until it gets too cold in the
winter to do so.
5. Easy access to everything we need. Mom and daughter walked to Mill Hill Elementary
with a cello in tote every day and our son walked to high school even through the
winter. It’s an easy drive to Fairfield downtown for dinner or the train to NYC and
Westport is just down the hill for grocery shopping and other shops. Four different
beaches are within 2 miles and it’s an easy hop to either 95 or the Merritt for road trips.
6. Entertainment at home. The yard is so big and divided into usable areas that, at
different times in our ten years, we have had a full-size trampoline, archery range and a
volleyball net in the side yard, a regulation soccer goal in the back with bases set up for
wiffle ball and a snow luge that let the kids sled from the high far corner to the bottom
of the driveway. The driveway was used for basketball.
7. The basement space, when the weather didn’t cooperate, the basement was often
filled with kids playing Wii and ping pong. It was a great space for the kids to retreat too
and walked out to the yard when the weather was good.
8. Comfortable working from home. This was particularly true when Covid hit and
the kids were learning at home. One of the five bedrooms was made into an office
to augment the official office on the first floor so that my wife and I could both do
our work thing without having to manage overlapping schedules. The kids had their
rooms, the basement, the deck or pool and the Family Room to choose from.
9. Cooking and baking in my gorgeous kitchen while the family hung out in the the
Family Room, my favorite place. We could all be together without everyone getting in
the way of the cooking,
10. Playing the piano in the front room while staring out the window. The light that
flows through is constantly changing and it’s mesmerizing.
