What role does drawing, or
visual art plays in your zines?
I started drawing because I wrote
this story “My Anxiety is My Lover”
which is Think About the Bubbles #11.
I liked the story but I knew it
needed to be illustrated. After a
failed attempted to work with an artist
I decided to start drawing myself. I
learned to draw in high school so it
came back pretty quickly.
I really enjoy illustrating my zines
because sometimes I don’t think I’m very
intentional about how I do it, but some
pages turn out to be very revealing and
therapeutic when I read the zine later.
The art in my zines helps me to more
satisfactorily express thoughts, and emotion.
I used to just want to be a writer, but now I
can’t imagine not having art as part of my writing.
I like drawing birds a lot. I’m going to do a zine with
all the bird drawings one day, too.
