Joyce Hatton began writing zines in 2012 to deal with feelings of isolation and depression. While connecting with other zine writers and radicals of color through Tumblr,
Joyce learned new concepts that helped her to see the problem wasn’t within her,
but was due to the fact that she had spent almost her entire life in North and South Dakota living with no refuge from the white supremacy that surrounded her.
In an attempt to build a safe haven and community,
Joyce organized the Fargo-Moorhead Zine Fest. http://metropolarity.net/2013/10/metropolarity-and-the-fargo-moorhead-zine-fest/ fargomoorheadzinefest.tumblr.com
A couple months later she realized she wouldn’t do a second year because fuck giving to a community that is toxic and draining.
She now resides in Philly where she is healling from life in the Dakotas. She hopes to write a zine about it one day.
If you’re a Dakotan/small town MN, WY, MT, etc. of color
and you’d like to contribute, hit her up at

She blogs at airhornoftruthandlove.tumblr.com
about her zines, her mental health, race, and questioning her queer identity.
