NYANGA NATIONAL PARK – Eastern Highlands
Located in one of Zimbabwe’s most scenic areas, Nyanga National Park covers 47,000 hectares with rolling green hills, pine forests and rivers – at between 1,800 and 2,600 metres, it offers stunning views, waterfalls and unique flora and fauna..
Attractions include 2,593-metre Mount Nyangani, Zimbabwe’s highest point, Pungwe Gorge, the stone work at Nyangwe and Chawomera Forts, a trout hatchery, and the Rhodes Museum, plus Mutarazi Falls – the highest waterfall in the country and second highest in Africa.
For the active, there’s trout fishing, horse riding, fly fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, bird watching and game viewing.
Other national parks include Lake Chivero, with a convenient location near to Harare; Kariba National Park itself, created after the river was dammed in 1960 and now featuring a variety of cruises, fishing, island-hopping and land-based game viewing; the Darwendale Recreational Park located 76 km west of Harare that attracts bass fishing enthusiasts challenging the 18.4lb record catch, and the Kazuma Pan National Park in the north west, which features huge buffalo herds and extensive grass plains,
