Introduction

Losing a member is the most shocking and traumatic things that a person can live and leave
a psychologic and physical trace. It is more difficult in the case where the members are legs.
This person can't walk either run. But nowadays, men and women can find again the
possibility to walk and to realise simple things thanks to new prostheses more and more
               sophisticated.

Sport for disabled people is a theme that struck us. Indeed, we all have to feel concerned
about disability, because someone in our environment could be directly affected by disability.
Also, it is important to talk about it. Moreover, we all love the sport and we find that a win is
more beautiful if it is won with an handicap. Technical advances in sport can change the live
               of disabled people.

However, the possibility for disabled people to practice some sport at the same level as
normal people is helping them to accept this “difference”. So this person can be “accepted”
or considered as “normal” people in our society.

Prostheses have a very important role in sports like athletics especially in sprint races where
normal people essentially practice. Some disabled people considered themselves as normal
people if they can have normal person for contender.

We chose to speak about Stéphane Bahier, a famous triathlete from Mayenne and Oscar
Pistorius as example for experience in our TPE.

Notre problématique est donc la suivante : Comment l’évolution des prothèses a t-elle
permis l’amélioration des performances des coureurs handicapés tout en leur
donnant la possibilité de s’épanouir dans leur sport ?

In the first part, we will speak about the prosthesis generally (history, materials and costs), in
the second part we will make a comparison between a leg and a prosthesis and in the third
part, we will make a comparison between a leg and a sport prosthesis and we will compare
Oscar Pistorius’ results with a valid athlete during the Olympic Games. We also elaborated
hypotheses about Pistorius’ physical performance and his sports capacities.
