CHAPLAIN
In the middle of all that is going on, doubt, fear, discourage- ment and death we can know from past experience that we can “look to the hills from which comes our help. Our help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:1-2. It is indeed trying times that we live in. But it was 50-60 years ago also there was so much uncertainty for the front- line soldier. And then either as we heard news from across the big pond or returned there, we found our land was in turmoil as well. Many looked for escape then and some do now. However, many found a renewed understanding that God would take care of those who followed him.
I have been reading an interesting military history of the U.S. and Britain going during WW2 in North Africa. I started because of the 2/503d making
the first jump of the war,They were wiped out because of poor intelligence and poor support. It is a story of the first few months of indecisive leadership, poor logistics, and near complete breakdown in morale. Lessons learned in basic training, AIT, and leadership schools were nearly all lost. Struggles over top leadership were commonplace. They learned as we do that through unity, communication and a common goal a goal can be achieved.
How then does this speak
to us then in the spiritual realm? Throughout history and particular- ly the Bible we find God constantly talked to men and women of faith that they can trust in Him and He
will be by their side. Many of us would rather do the selfish thing and do what is right in our own eyes. This will always lead us into trouble. Now, this does not mean that we will be perfect in life, but it does mean that we will seek the mind of Christ that we might serve others in this life and as King Da- vid stated in the Psalms. referenced above that we understand who we are and who he is.
Many have distorted the gospel of peace and have forgotten or do not know what grace is about. I for one can attest without the peace of God I could not contin- ue to go on. Also, without His amazing grace, I would still be as one unclean. CONDEMNED. However, at an early age I heard His call on my life and have sought to serve Him and my country all these years. There in the jungles, one night I was very discouraged. After reading my Gideon New Testament the peace of God came over me and I found the assurance that His salvation was freely given to me. I found out then and for the last 53 years that as was spo- ken to Esther by her uncle, “... that for such a time as this...”
we are here. God has a plan and purpose for each of us. So, let me encourage you in a time such as this, understand that we can stand under the cross and our flag and seek peace, liberty and justice for all. Blessings to all in these times. Know that God loves you and so do I.
