Not me. So now I take a practice swing, trying to put the bottom of the swing ahead of the ball, then take a real swing to try to do the same. Two trays equals 80 practice swings and 80 real swings. I don't do full shots, because my back would fall apart, but I feel if I can make contact on a half swing, I can do it on a full one. I will give it a month and see if I can get back into the 70s.
The big question is why?
I have no answer.
When I retired from my career in comedy I turned to my first love, golf, and
thought if I practiced and played I would get better. Silly me. In my years on the road I'd managed to perfect a flawed swing that produced a lot of fat shots. Frustrating. Also it only took eight years to figure out I couldn't play afternoon golf in the Thai heat. Mad dogs, Englishmen and golf leagues in Chiangmai all go out in the midday sun and it's insane.
Enough about golf. I picked up Awee and headed home.
My wife just got home from work and I realize she'd asked me to strip the sheets and pillow cases off the bed this morning and I'd totally forgotten. So we do it now in silence, with the firm understanding that the bed should've been airing out all day. I am a failure at bed airing out.
My wife works hard. She has a full-time job as secretary to the dean of music at Payap University. She also keeps the house clean and does laundry, with the modest help of her two teen-age nieces. It's a big house, built by her family, and I have offered many times to pay for a maid to help her out. We had a maid when we first moved in. Bo was a girl from mom's village up in the hills and she lived with us for a few years. She became part of the family and Jintana's family helped her get her citizenship card, which is a big deal in Thailand. Then she fell in love with a guy from the village, moved back and got married.
Jintana doesn't want a new maid. She doesn't want a stranger in her house, so she does the housework.
My contribution is to drive kids to school and various activities. I also do my own ironing, as I spent 45 years on the road. Heck, I can steam out a suit with a travel iron. I have skills! I offered to do my own laundry but she doesn't trust me with the washing machine. I have also tried to help clean house, but gave up when I vacuumed the whole upstairs only to find her re-vacuuming 20 minutes later. Either she thinks I'm totally inept, or Thai people have a very firm idea of women's work and men's work. I think it's the latter. I also share the money I made doing comedy for 45 years. I like the idea of helping pay for the kids' schools, meals in restaurants, and stuff around the house.
The bed is made. It's twilight. I have nothing to do this evening because I've decided to take a month off from people. I've always have been kind of a
