And what do the Catenians do to support each other? (Why would a priest wish to recommend the Catenians?)
• You will find Catenians in their local Parishes in various capacities- Deacons, Eucharistic Ministers, Readers, Finance, Greeting, the Music Ministry, visiting the sick and other official duties. Others appeal on behalf of Aid to the Church in Need (supporting deprived and persecuted Christians), Cafod , and other Christian Charities.
• But, while we support specific national or local initiatives, we also provide an invaluable forum for busy lay men to explore how best they can individually help the Church’s mission, eg by participating in, leading and supporting the effectiveness of parish mechanisms, recruiting school governors, contributing to other Church bodies (eg SVP, KHS, etc.)
• Apart from these forms of corporate and individual Catholic Action, we would also stress the value of Catenians in developing and maintaining our personal spiritual lives. In that our mission is at one with the Church itself, but we provide (relatively unusually) a stimulus which is lay led rather than provided by the clergy. This feature, plus the fact that we concentrate on the particular perspective of Catholics, gives us a specific opportunity to understand each others context and provide personalized and confidential support as requested, on a spiritual or secular level. Our arrangements for welfare contact, prayers and benevolence aid are the most obvious examples, but informal contacts beween Brothers as individuals are very significant in countless ways.
