Scope of Microbiology

          • Fungi (singular: fungus)

                 – Many (such as yeasts and some molds) are single-celled microorganisms

                 – Some (mushrooms) are multicellular macroscopic organisms

                 – Have cell nucleus and intracellular structures
                 – All fungi absorb ready-made nutrients from the environment

          • Protozoa

                 – Single-celled microscopuc organisms with at least one nucleus and numerous

                     intracellular structures

                 – Few species of amoebae are visible with the naked eye

                 – Most protozoa obtain food by engulfing or ingesting smaller microorganisms
