QUALITY AND EXCELLENCE ANNUAL REPORT 2020
  Delivering our healthcare services
to the highest quality and excellence is something we strive to achieve every day for our community. We take very seriously the need to constantly push the boundaries of what is seen as ‘excellent’ service.
Inaugural San Doctor Gala Dinner and Awards
Sydney Adventist Hospital doctors were recognised, thanked and awarded for their passion, expertise and commitment to the San during a special event held at the Harbourside Taronga Function Centre in September 2019. Master of Ceremonies Jean Kittson, alongside CEO Brett Goods, AHCL Chairman Glenn Townend and
Dr Jeanette Conley, presented awards to three highly deserving winners nominated by their peers and hospital staff.
The San Dr Award was awarded to Professor Brian Jones for his altruism, compassion, integrity and leadership; his educative and mentorship role; and his wholistic approach in caring
for the body, mind and spirit of patients. Retiring in 2019, former Medical Advisory Committee Chairman Professor Jones was characteristically humble about
his award and expressed the joy he has experienced during his 33 years working at the San.
The prestigious San Dr Academic Award was awarded to Professor Henry Woo in recognition of
his leadership and innovation, and commitment to education and skills sharing. As a Professor of Surgery at the University
of Sydney and a foundation member of the academic staff
of the Medical School onsite at the San, Professor Woo has been prolifically involved in clinical trials and publication of research findings, saying it is a privilege and honour to be recognised with the San Dr Academic Award for his academic work.
The San Dr Community Services Award was awarded to Dr Ian Nicholson OAM. An Order of Australia recipient in 2014 and finalist for the Australian of
the Year in 2016, Dr Nicolson
has carried out more than 50 volunteer life-saving heart missions in the South Pacific, South America and East
Africa with the San supported humanitarian aid program Open Heart International.
