WEEKLY PROGRAM
Each athlete may compete in up to six events each Saturday morning. The events program operates on a six-week cycle. The first Saturday morning is Week 1, the second Saturday
is Week 2, and so on. Once Week 6 is completed, the program starts again at Week 1. If
a meeting is cancelled, the cancelled program takes place the following week. These 6 weekly programs are listed in chapter 9. Please note that events scheduled for 8:00am
or 8:30am are optional. Events or event order may be changed at the discretion of the Championship & Competition Officer. Any such changes will be published on our website and in the newsletter prior to the day.
LAST DAY
On the last day of the season, events will be timed or measured but no records will be established. During the morning, our Under 20 athletes will be farewelled and our State representatives will be acknowledged.
Best performance certificates for the 2024/25 season will be presented at the Ku-ring-gai Presentation Day on 4 May 2025.
CARE OF YOUR ATHLETE
First Aid is available at the Amenities Block.
Sunscreen is available from the canteen.
Dr David McGilvray from Hornsby Sports Medicine provided the following guidelines.
Heat Stress: Heat stress is a major threat to children in hot and humid conditions. It is essential that children drink plenty of fluids during the Saturday morning program. It is also essential to maximise the use of shade, hats, and sunscreen to prevent sunburn and heat stress.
Injury Prevention: A thorough warm up with jogging and stretching is essential and should be performed prior to competing. Stretching should be continued between events, especially if there is a time gap.
The common injuries in Little Athletics are muscle strain injuries and strain injuries where tendons join bone. The first aid treatment of these injuries involves:
Guidelines to Manage Injuries:
Rest
Rest until the acute pain has settles.
Ice
Ice is applied for 10 to 15 minutes each two to three hours until the swelling has settled.
Compression
Compression is applied with a firm bandage until swelling has been controlled.
Elevation
Keep the injured area elevated.
Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation aims to return the injured athlete to a condition where their risk of re-injury has been absolutely minimised.
It is based on accurate diagnosis, early mobilisation, stretching and strengthening exercises. Technique correction is often required to prevent re-injury
ANY ATHLETE WHO EXPERIENCES PAIN REPEATEDLY IN THE SAME AREA REQUIRES CAREFUL ASSESSMENT.
