CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
JENNIFER HUBER
September 15, 2022
It was bittersweet meeting up with those who attended the annual conference. Our
Executive Director Butch Newell did a terrific job in planning the event. Discover
Crystal River and the Plantation on Crystal River were generous and amazing hosts.
Even the rain didn’t stop our adventurous spirits from venturing out and exploring.
In fact, Georgia Turner, Melanie Lentz-Janney and I explored Mertailor’s Mermaid
Aquarium Encounter and met the founder who chased his dream. When he achieved
that, he envisioned a bigger dream. Who else knew mermaids are a lucrative industry?
Pretty cool.
As you’ve heard by now, during the General Membership Meeting, it was announced
FOWA will dissolve by the end of 2022. One of the things I’ll miss are the annual
meetings and the connections. But, I keep reminding myself we are not limited from
connecting outside the organization. Our relationships will extend beyond FOWA’s
existence. Paraphrasing what FOWA member Dennis Cone said during the meeting,
when one door closes, another opportunity opens.
My sentiments about FOWA’s dissolution are summed up in this Dr. Seuss quote.
“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
Respectfully,
Jennifer A. Huber
Chairman of the Board of Directors
