2011 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 91 Rating, Best Buy
“This wine packs a lot of luxury for the price, a round, supple chardon- nay with avors of apple and cream. There’s also a cool feel – the earthen cool of a cave wall the balances the wine’s richness. For grilled lobster.” Wine & Spirits Magazine,
August 2013
Sonoma-Cutrer Les Pierres Chardonnay Five Stars (92)
“Rich yet lively, hard to believe it’s barrel fermented given its fresh character; lush tropical fruit with pineapple-lifesaver nish.”

2009 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, 91 Rating
“You can feel and taste the cool weather during this vintage in the citrusy acids, steely minerals and sleek, streamlined avors of Meyer lemons and nectarines. Barrel fermentation adds needed richness. Good price for a dry, sophisticated Chardonnay.” Steve Heimo ,
Wine Enthusiast
Sonoma-Cutrer has been producing the nest quality wines since it opened as a vineyard company in 1973. Its foundation is built in the hillsides and rocky foothills in the region recognized as the Sonoma Coast Appellation – this region experiences long, even growing seasons thanks
Each of our Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs re ects the unique qualities of its vineyard. Subtle differences in climate and soil explain the elegant and complex differences inherent to each. Whether in uenced by cold fog microclimates or the volcanic ash content of the soil, atmospheric conditions and the geologic history de ne the character of our wines as much as the cultivation process.
The Cutrer
The Cutrer Vineyard covers approximately 250 acres of the rolling hills of the winery’s 450-acre estate. It is located in the heart of the Russian River Valley where the soil re ects the geological history of the area – from its origin as the ocean oor to the volcanic eruptions of Mt. St. Helena. The volcanic ash that ltered through the soil layers has left the earth de cient in nutrients and water. This stress on the soil in turn stresses the vines, and is bene cial by reducing cluster size of the fruit and enhancing the avor of the juice.
to the cool, foggy coastal climate. In the 70s, the company planted several different grape varieties and virtually overnight, Sonoma-Cutrer’s Chardonnay grapes had gained a reputation for exceptional quality and were in high demand by many premium wineries.

generation to generation, and Mick Schroeter is no exception. Starting out on his own at Kaiser Stuhl winery in Australia, Mick blazed his own trail and had no intentions of following in his father and uncle’s footsteps at the Penfold Winery. Then in 1982, Penfold bought Kaiser Stuhl and reunited Mick with his family in the business.

Although Mick was already well-versed in winemaking, Penfold allowed him to continue his pursuit sponsoring his winemaking education at the famed Roseworthy College and providing him a scholarship to visit and study Chilean wine country. This was followed with a 6-month tour around the world with his wife and a stop in California to work the wine harvest.
Mick rose rapidly through the Penfold system and had the privilege to be part of their red winemaking team. From there, Mick accepted an invitation from Geyser Peak Winery in California to take over as Vice President of Winemaking. It is his long track record of success that gave Mick the encompassing experience to take the reins at Sonoma-Cutrer.
