Paul Ahvenainen began his career at Korbel Champagne Cellars in 1985, shortly after his graduation from the University of California at Davis with a degree in Enology, and two years of experience working as a distiller for a subsidiary of French Cognac producer Remy Martin. Having gained extensive experience working in Korbel’s laboratory, cellar, grower relations, and as an Assistant Winemaker, as well as teaching wine chemistry at Sonoma
American consumers and its presence at various celebrations throughout the years. The Winery is open daily for complimentary tours and tastings. The Korbel Delicatessen serves up gourmet offerings daily withindoorandoutdoorseatingand a dog-friendly picnic area. Owned and managed by the Heck family since 1954, Korbel currently makes eleven California champagnes and a limited amount of still wine. In a separate facility Korbel also produces one of the country’s most respected brandies.
State University, Paul was promoted to the position of Winemaker prior to the 1996 harvest.
Paul was named Senior Winemaker in 1998, and eventually Director of Winemaking in 2003. As Director of Winemaking, Paul works closely with the entire winemaking staff and is ultimately responsible for all Korbel California champagnes, wines and brandies.
Paul is very privileged to have the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented, creative and quality oriented team, all working together on these great products.
