The name, along with all menu items, is inspired by tradition.
Pomodori means ‘tomatoes’ in Italian, and Osteria translates to a
“simple restaurant” with the origin “oste” meaning host.
The restaurant’s owner, John Bohn, is also the head chef. He has
owned restaurants everywhere from Vegas to Ashland and now in
Medford. He grew up in New York with Italian born grandparents
who taught him how to cook. His dishes are inspired by the home
cooking of his family, in particular his Nona. The most authentic
dish John serves is his Meatballs Bolognese, making the meatballs
exactly the same way he was taught as a little kid. One of John’s
secrets is: “Don’t pack your meatballs too tight. You gotta let them
breathe a little.”
“The overall idea of Pomodori is a northwestern Italian style restau-
rant. Northwest Italy is considered the breadbasket of the region.
This landscape offers century-old olive oil and a wide variety of
cheese, meat, cream, and more. An environment like this can lead
to a communal style dining experience, which is something we’ve
always strived to create. Now, in a pandemic, we’ve learned how
to offer this same type of experience in a safe atmosphere for our
community. Any successful restaurant can point to repeat business
as the main factor in their success,” shares General Manager Ben
Caruso.
Pomodori serves a variety of house cocktails with tried and true
