                                                                                                      FRIENDS OF THE
                                                                                                      ANIMAL SHELTER


                                                                                                 Community awareness is key to the
                                                                                                 work of groups like Jackson County’s
                                                                                                 Friends of the Animal Shelter (FOTAS).

                                                                                                 “Not everybody knows the extent of
                                                                                                 what we do,” says Tricia de Felice,
                                                                                                 Board Member and Chair of the FOTAS
                                                                                                 Publicity Committee.
                                                                                                 FOTAS has four main areas where they
                                                                                                 need community involvement:
                                                                                                 1.   volunteering
                                                                                                 2.  fostering
                                                                                                 3.  donating
                                                                                                 4.  adoption.

                                                                                                  “We have hundreds of dogs and cats
                                                                                                 come into the shelter every year,” says
                                                                                                 de Felice, and their ultimate goal is to
                                                                                                 keep these animals alive, healthy, and
                                                                                                 placed into loving adoptive homes.
                                                                                                 That care relies heavily on the generos-
                                                                                                 ity of the community to provide neces-
                                                                                                 sary funds, and to supply the volunteer
                                                                                                 hours necessary to care for the animals
                                                                                                 that come through their doors.
