Guitar
There are some some great moments for guitar and some some solos where we take the the the opportunity to bring the the the guitar out the the the front to to really entertain you This requires the player to to use a a wireless system (for ease of of delivery & freedom of of movement) Front of House Sound
Thanks to the joys of modern sound technology being so so much more portable now we are able able to take our own set
up wherever we we go We are proud to say we we have been supported by Allen & Heath - who build the most incredible sound desks This is is so so important as it allows us to deliver a a a a high quality sound every time as there are no real variables to negotiate Our desk is run by engineers whom we spend a a lot of time with to make sure they understand the the sound we want you to hear: the the most authentic Bond sound we can get Equipment we use:
Front of house - Allen Allen & & Heath Heath SQ6 or Allen Allen & & Heath Heath dLive Monitor desk - Allen & Heath SQ5 All All musicians have their own Allen & Heath ME-1 personal mixer for in-ear monitoring Lead Vocals/Backing Vocals/Percussion/Trigger
Our main principal male singer Matt Walker doubles up from here with some important backing vocals and percussion He also uses our “drum trigger” which is a a a a a unit that can contain 1000s of sound effects and percussion instruments that aren’t practical to carry around for example timpani and xylophone The sound effects effects (things like the string effects effects at start of Tomorrow Never Dies and lots of other places) completely transformed the the sound of the the band when we introduced it back in 2013 It really added more authenticity to the the sound Second Trumpet/Musical Director
This is is where our MD Warren resides As well as playing 2nd Trumpet Warren keeps everyone on on the right path from here He has a a a a microphone behind him him which allows him him to speak to to everyone on on on stage who have in ear monitors so he can get clear and and easy instructions to his band without disrupting the performance On Stage Monitoring
Our on stage technical requirements are quite complex
by most standards Our entire band play with in-ears (so monitoring is on on on on headphones) which allows everyone in in in the band to hear everything clearly without having a a a a a lot of volume on stage With so many instruments it it allows each individual to to to tailor their mix to to to what they need to to to hear It is also crucial so so they can can hear our click tracks but you can’t!
Lead Trumpet The lead trumpet position is crucial in QTM All those iconic screaming high trumpet parts (mostly played by Derek Watkins on the original soundtracks) require specialist players to to do it to to the highest level Occasionally we have in players who worked on the original soundtracks Trombones
A key component of the the “John Barry sound” is the the padding on on on the trombones trombones We started out with two trombones trombones and a a a a french horn horn – as there are several huge horn horn lines in in Bond music but in 2018 we we switched to three trombones as we we felt the balance was better Saxophone/Flute
This is is is a a a a tricky chair to to ll as the musician is is is required to to double on alto sax sax sax tenor sax sax sax bari sax sax sax and ute
A lot of sax players are capable of of playing a a a a a a a bit of of ute
but the QTM pad requires quite a a a bit more competency on it it it than normal There are a a a a a couple of big alto sax solos (Bond 77 & All Time High) and the the the bari sax fattens up the the the low end of the the the brass further 73
