Prepare yourself as a guide- remove the word “teacher” from your mindset.
The mind shift to guide will set you on the path to embrace the roles of observation, preparation and presentation.
Leave your role as parent and assume the role of guide during the designated “school” times. During this time you are not the caregiver, your are the experience/opportunity giver.
Follow your child’s lead. Take the time to understand what this truly means: what are your child’s interests and what are their abilities? Offer opportunities for experiences based on these.
During the designated school portion of the day, remove your expectations of the child. Remember that your child’s potential is greater than anything you can imagine, when given appropriate experiences to engage interest, concentration, and develop curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity.
Remain centered as a guide during this time; emotional “baggage” should be deposited at the door. You should be fully present in the role of guide, rather than parent during this time. Give 100% of your focus, energy and spirit to your child as their guide.
